Every now and again we get the opportunity to be a part of something wonderful, something that makes a difference, and on February 11th we were lucky enough to be a part of the amazing "EMPOWER ME FASHION NIGHT" . A big part of Harlow's philosophy is to "Empower women through fashion" so when we were given the opportunity to be a part of this event we jumped at the chance.
What is Empower me?
Empower Me is the brainchild of Ning Hadiningsih and Nic Van Riel, who realised that self-confidence is a big issue affecting many young women worldwide. Wanting to make a difference they started Empower Me, with the focus of empowering women by promoting better self-confidence and self-acceptance through fashion.
Then took it a step further by bringing together a runway show "Empower me fashion night" featuring local designers and pieces from Vinnies - showing us that fashion is possible on any budget. The runway featured both professional models, volunteers and new female migrants who had been trained by runway professionals especially for the night.
Empower me sends the message beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, genders and ethnicity. That it is important that we band together and remember it is important that while empowering ourselves we also empower those around us. This is a powerful message, one that should be shared far & wide.
One of my favourite sayings:
"A thousand Candles can be lighted from the flame of one candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness can be spread without diminishing that of yourself" - Mahatma Gandhi
The event held at The Carlton was an amazing success, such a great vibe, with tickets selling out and the event raising awareness as well as much needed funds of more then $4000 for the ASRC. You can follow Empower me on FB, by clicking here.
